     Monthly informal jam session for players of all types of squeezeboxes and ability levels.

Fasnacht Costume/Masquerade Dance (Swiss Mardi Gras)

Sunday, March 2, 2014; 1 - 5 pm
Grand Hall; $15 admission; $2 for Grades 8 and under, accompanied by an adult.
     Experience the fun and spirit of this Swiss tradition with a dance played by the Keith Zweifel Band. Includes finger foods. Costumes encouraged, but not required.

Swiss Movie Night

     Showing of the 2011 Swiss comedy-fantasy film, Der Sandmann. In Swiss-German with easy-to-read English sub-titles. Winner of 16 film awards, directed by Peter Luisi, one of the writers for Vitus. 88 minutes; comparable PG-13 rating. Click on the title for a preview.

Swiss Heritage Family Film: Heidi

     Bring your children or grandchildren, and join us in the Grand Hall to watch the film version of the beloved Swiss story, Heidi, by Johanna Spyri.

Presentation on Carl Marty / Unveiling of New Carl Marty Artwork

     Get a glimpse into the life of Swiss immigrant, Carl Marty (1873-1960) through a presentation by local author and historian, Kim Tschudy. Marty, a local cheese plant owner, was also a collector, poet and painter. Turner Hall recently acquired drawings done by Marty, which will be unveiled as part of the presentation.

Volunteer Firefighters Band from Kropp, Germany
Tuesday, July 29, 2014; 7:30 pm

     Enjoy a performance direct from Germany! The 30-member multi-generational wind band, directed by Johannes Rasmussen, performs a wide variety of repertoire including swing, pop, rock, and other music with lots of audience appeal.

Heart of Cheese Days Exhibit
Saturday, September 20, 2014; 10 am - 3 pm

Grand Hall; Free admission with a Cheese Days button
     See the culture that gave rise to Cheese Days! Presented by the Monroe Swiss Singers, see and speak with the artisans who create traditional Swiss folk art as well as view exhibits of Swiss artifacts and memorabilia as brought to Green County by Swiss immigrants.
     Special features this year: 1) Hanspeter Stähli of Huggler Woodcarving in Switzerland will be demonstrating figure carving, and 2) the Green County Genealogical Society will also be on hand with laptops to help visitors find their Swiss - or any other - roots.

Postcard-Perfect Switzerland

     Presented by photographer Bobbie Bernet, this slide presentation of the beautiful sights in Switzerland will feature highlights from the 2013 Turner Hall-sponsored trip to Switzerland, augmented with photos from additional trips Bobbie and her husband, Hans, have made there.

Monroe Swiss Singers' 48th Annual Swissfest

Grand Hall; $8 in advance (available at Orange Kitten Yarns on the Square); $10 at the door
     A longtime Monroe tradition, this program features an afternoon of Green County's finest Swiss folk choirs and performers followed by an oldtime dance. Lots of new talent this year! The Ratskeller Restaurant will be open following the program.

Christkindlmarkt - Old World Holiday Shopping Market

Friday - Saturday, November 28-29, 2014; 9 am - 4 pm
Grand Hall; Free admission
     A German tradition dating back to the 14th century, the Christkindlmarkt features unique items from hand-selected quality vendors for your holiday gift-giving. A European café and Swiss baked goods round out this special shopping experience.

Alpine Carol Sing and Candle Tree Lighting

      A very special traditional Alpine event at which you can help light 100 candles on a freshly-cut evergreen Christmas tree! Informal singing of carols and holiday treats, and a visit from Swiss Samichlaus and his bad-behavior consultant, Schmutzli. NOTE: Although this is a family event, it is advised that it may not be suitable for very young or fearful children!

Deutscher Weihnachtsgottesdienst (German Christmas Communion Service)

St. John's United Church of Christ; Monroe, WI. Free-will offering.
      A truly touching Christmas experience for the soul. Conducted entirely in German (English translation available) by members of the Monroe Swiss Singers.
